Veteran Survey
Shelley Langstaff, a graduate student
at University of Calgary, is trying to complete a survey of veterans'
satisfaction with the New Veteran Charter (NVC). From the survey site the
survey's mission statement is as follows
Extract from the Survey web site:
BACKGROUND: WHAT IS THE
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY?
The objective of this research project, entitled Veterans Survey
Project 2009, is to explore relationships within the military
subculture, including demographic similarities among veterans, level of
satisfaction regarding recognition for service and service provisions
reflected in the New Veteran’s Charter. Specifically, the research
question asks, “Is the New Veterans’ Charter sufficient to ensure
that veterans receive a full continuum of care aimed at assisting in a
successfully transition from active military duty to meaningful civilian
life?” This inquiry, in part, aims to increase awareness regarding the
New Veterans’ Charter and to gauge veteran response to the
legislation. Further because research specific to the military in Canada
is relatively rare, a secondary aim is to explore whether veterans in
Canada feel that they receive adequate services aimed at assist with a
successful transition from military society to civilian life. In
addition, because there is a distinct hierarchical power structure
within military culture the relationship between military rank and
social capital within military society will be explored, as well as
whether social capital within military society translates to social
capital within civilian society.
VVi
Publisher's Note: This is a very worthwhile survey. It is recommended that
all veterans complete the survey. Further, advise your local veteran's org
that you belong to post to their web. Any research done on Canadian veterans
is worthwhile and the results will indeed have a telling story. Support this
survey!
Not
many such surveys are done outside the political partisan arena. VVi
would like to see ALL veterans involved in looking out for themselves and
justly receiving their compensations that they have paid through, not
only through wounds and injuries but as well as actually monetary monthly
payments to various insurance plans devised for serving CF members. Concurrently,
VVi endeavours to have those same veterans work for the betterment of
future veterans, those now serving in uniform.
Your
participation in this survey does not take a lot of time or effort. Just read
the survey's introduction below, click the link, read the survey's
background, and complete the survey.
I
encourage all vet orgs to have this survey published to their respective
websites for their members to participate.
This
kind of independent research and reporting can only serve to assist veterans
of any generation, ensuring their earned compensations are implemented.

New VVi Web
SITREP
The
CSAT Forum is now built into the VVi web site as a portal. By clicking
on the side menu Feedback, Your Comments, or Notices, or Self Help and Help
Forum, these links will take you directly into the applicable forum
of CSAT Forums. You may also directly link to CSAT Forums through http://csat.top-talk.net/index.htm.
The new
data-based web site is progressing and should be published NLT Dec this
year in accordance with the original draft SOR. A
call for a veteran as the VVi Webmaster remains. As with all VVi staff, these
duties are based on voluntary service, and the volunteer must be a veteran.
In this particular case, it would be helpful if the veteran volunteer had a
great deal of knowledge on data-based web sites ;) If you do not have sufficient
time, then maybe you could make yourself available to assist the current webmaster
with specific problems in developing the new web. Contact
